Best Time to Go?
Mediterranean countries such as Spain, Greece and Croatia are at their best during the summer months when the thermometers push past 30 degrees. Expect larger crowds to descend on all of the beaches and tourist destinations, and prices to be a little higher than they are between the months of October to April. But when it comes to the colder months, don’t let the winter weather put you off!
During the cooler months, Europe is a treasure-trove filled with some of the best winter break destinations in the world. Bring in the New Year at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, head to Venice Carnevale in February, hit the slopes in the French Alps, sink a stein (or three) in Berlin’s cosy Christmas markets, or take it one step further and head off in search of Santa in Finland!
Of course, there’s also heaps of destinations on the Mediterranean where the sun keeps on shining throughout winter. With less crowds and cheaper travelling costs, travelling Europe in the winter has some serious perks…

Europe Travel Guide
How can I travel Europe on a budget?
There are plenty of cities in Europe where beer can still cost under £2, and a good meal will be under £5. These include Berlin, Budapest and Prague. No matter where you are you’ll be able to find local markets where you can buy delicious food for a lot less than in restaurants. As for transport around Europe, you could bag yourself an Interrail pass for as little as £180 and hop around as many European cities as your time allows, all at a set price.
How do I find cheap accommodation in Europe?
Cities such as Venice, Rome and Paris may be renowned for their fancy hotels and pricey food, but there’s always ways to pinch the pennies on the road. First of all, book yourself into one of the hundreds of hostels for as little as £8 a night. You’ll meet fellow travellers, have the opportunity to cook your own food, and gain plenty of tips from the staff about the cheapest, and best places to visit in the city you’re in.
